Number 1 rule is don't ever use those throw away WP themes that really suck amateur. Look for those that are magazine type as they are more professional looking. If you don't like looking at sucky themes then you can be sure your visitors won't.

Number 2 and Number 3 consider investing in WPRobot and ABS.

Number 4 is get a commercial plugin that can do mass syndication of your autoposts to social sites. Takes about 1 hour to set up the accounts for each of your websites. Use new gmail account for each of your site when registering with these social sites.

Number 5 there is a free plugin called evermore that can shorten your posts if you have multiposts on the homepage. Looks really neat and tidy.
